Using garlic won’t lead to any pain or bleeding. It aims to dry out the skin tag naturally. Only after it has dried up and died will it fall off.

They can appear anywhere on the body. Usually, though, they develop where skin overlaps itself, and it is constantly rubbing, causing friction. This is what is believed to cause a skin tag to form. They are nothing to be concerned about because they are not a medical issue.

Of course, if you are worried, you could go to your doctor just to be reassured that it is, indeed, a skin tag. That will remove the worry, but you can easily get rid of it by yourself without the expense.

Why Do People Use Garlic to Heal the Skin?

Many people don’t realize the health benefits of garlic. It has natural healing properties, which make it good for treating many different ailments.  Many skin issues can be resolved with garlic cloves.

It is a natural antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-fungal. It also contains other enzymes that are believed to dry out skin tags. Sometimes, though, garlic can cause further irritation to the skin, so you may want to protect the skin using a thin layer of Vaseline of another petroleum jelly.

Step-by-Step Process for Safely Removing Skin Tags with Garlic

Here’s the process for getting rid of a skin tag with garlic:

  • Crush a few cloves of garlic and mash them to make a paste.
  • Put this paste onto the area, and cover it with a bandage. This will ensure that the oil from the garlic stays on the skin tag. Keep the Band-Aid on for about 2 hours, and then remove it.
  • You should do this two or three times a day until it falls off. It is said to take about a week for the garlic to dry out the skin tag.
  • You could also keep the garlic on the skin tag, covered with a Band-Aid, overnight and wash with warm water in the morning. Do this every day for about a week, and it may fall off.
  • Since they often develop where the skin has friction, make sure that you have a good adhesive bandage. If it comes off, the oil from the garlic will also rub off. It won’t hurt anything, but it will take longer to heal.

How Long Does It Take to Work?

Since everyone’s immune system is different, the time it takes for the skin tag to dry out will vary. Also, the size of the skin tag may make a difference to if and how long it takes to work.

Some people have very small skin tags, while others can grow to about the size of a grape. If you have a medium or large skin tag, we don’t recommend using garlic to dry it out, because it will take far too long.

Using garlic is a cheap and affordable method, although it does take some time and it definitely doesn’t work for everyone.

Can Everyone Use Garlic to Remove Skin Tags?

It isn’t recommended to use it to remove skin tags by your eyes, as it will sting, but it will be fine anywhere else on the body. It should be avoided if the skin tag is cut or has an infection. These should be allowed to heal before commencing treatment.

Alternative Skin Tag Removal Methods

Another type of treatment that you could use is an essential oil. These oils are taken straight from the leaves and barks of special trees and plants that have been known for centuries for their natural healing abilities.

Essential oils contain the same healing properties as garlic and more.  An excellent one is tea tree oil. It is a natural antibiotic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. It’s a potent oil, though, so it is suggested that you mix it equally with olive oil. It will not lose any of its healing abilities, as olive oil is a carrier oil and also has certain healing properties.

Although there are many different ways to safely and painlessly remove skin tags, using garlic is one of the cheapest natural methods. Also, you won’t experience pain, unless the garlic stings, and there will be no bleeding. The problem is that it’s a low success treatment.
