Do Skin Tags Grow Back?

At one time or another, upwards of half of us will develop a skin tag somewhere on the face or body. They’re more common among overweight people, and the incidence rises sharply with age, due to extra folds of skin. They’re harmless, but they aren’t aesthetically pleasing.

Skin tags appear where the skin is being rubbed on, whether it be by other skin, clothing, or jewelry. There are many different products for getting rid of skin tags. But, do skin tags grow back after they’ve been removed? The answer is no, but you may find that new ones grow nearby. This won’t always be the case, but it often happens. This is because you’ve removed the skin tag and not the cause. Unfortunately, some of us are more prone to skin tags than others.

Is it guaranteed that a skin tag will not grow back if the procedure is performed by a doctor? Yes, but the truth of the matter, though, is that a skin tag removed correctly by you will not reappear either. Having the procedure performed by a medical professional just gives you greater confidence in the outcome, but they can’t control what happens in the future.

There are many ways to get rid of skin tags. The problem is that some methods work and some don’t work at all. If you cut off a skin tag, leaving a small amount remaining, it won’t completely go away. That little piece of skin, albeit much reduced, will continue to show. If you use a low-success treatment, it isn’t going to remove your skin tags. That’s why you need to make sure that you use a tried-and-tested method.

The smaller skin tags are usually easier to completely remove. They tend to be newer and haven’t been irritated. You only tend to run into problems when you start touching and twisting skin tags. It can cause them to become inflamed or blood-filled. They can be quickly removed in less time, and they won’t reappear in the future if the procedure is carried out correctly.

Let’s look at some of the treatment options:

How to Prevent Skin Tags Growing Back

We prefer single application treatments that take away the guesswork from skin tag removal. When you use the right treatment, you’re less likely to run into problems in the future. Take time to read the instructions so that you can be sure that the skin tag is removed from the bottom of the narrow stalk. You don’t want to leave a small section as it will continue to show, albeit to a lesser extent.

TagBand Device

Larger skin tags, however, take more effort to remove. It’s likely that something has been rubbing against them, so they’ve grown in size. It’s much more likely that you’ll need to apply a treatment several times, and there’s a higher chance of missing a small section.

That’s one of the reasons why we recommend using the Micro TagBand. It creates a seal around the stalk so that the skin tag will be removed in the right place in about a week. Don’t use it if your skin tag is inflamed or infected. In fact, you shouldn’t use any treatment if that’s the case.

Tea Tree Oil for Skin Tags

We’re not a huge advocate of natural products for skin tags. If you’ve read our other posts on removing skin tags naturally, you’ll already know that we don’t believe that many of them work. It’s a more a case that people like the idea of using home remedies.

The big exception is that we’ve found that Apothecary tea tree oil, when applied three times each day, is a useful method of removing skin tags. It’s a particularly good option for people who have tiny skin tags because it’s much easier to target several of these growths at the same time.

We have written a post about using tea tree oil for skin tags for this purpose, and you can read it by clicking the link above. No treatment is guaranteed to work, but most people start to see encouraging results in 3 to 6 weeks, provided that they stick to the daily routine.

Pristine Herbal Touch Wart Mole Vanish

One of the issues with the removal of skin tags on the body is that the process can be slow and drawn out. It doesn’t always work, either. That’s why we like Wart Mole Vanish. It’s a single application treatment that removes these small growths in only 20 minutes.

The kit contains everything that’s needed to get the job done. Just ‘rough up’ the skin tag with the emery board or toothpick. This will allow the cream to penetrate the skin tag and get to work straight away. Read our in-depth Wart Mole Vanish Review to find out exactly how it works.

Can I Prevent Skin Tag from Forming?

There’s no guaranteed way, but there are things that you can do to stop new skin tags from growing. Losing weight, toning exercises, lifestyle changes, wearing looser clothing, and applying talcum powder can all help to reduce skin-on-skin friction.

Of course, you can’t do much about the other causes. You can’t control your genetics or hormones, for example. It is worth knowing the pregnancy skin tags often go away without treatment. If you’re currently carrying a child, wait and see what happens after your hormones are more settled.

In conclusion, a skin tag that has been removed correctly won’t grow back. That doesn’t mean that new skin tags won’t appear nearby, but it won’t be the same one that you’ve removed. All that you can do is safely remove skin tags each time that you notice that was has formed.
